Artist Profile

What's in the Name? Mountain Man Carl

The name Mountain Man Carl was not derived because of his physical appearance rather by his accent and speech. Mountain Man Carl was born in the mountains of the extreme eastern portion of the lovely State of Tennessee.

It never entered his mind that his speech was more unique or different from that of any American born individual. In 1961, he was in Baltimore, Maryland on company business. He, along with some fellow employees, ate at the same small café each evening. The waitress was the same each evening. After the third evening he noticed the waitress seemed to linger close by their table. He pointed this out to the others. One of the men pulled the waitress aside and expressed his feelings. She explained that she was listening to his accent, hoping to determine just what part of the country he was from. She said his accent was not pure southern. After learning the part of the country of his origin she stated his accent was "Mountain."

Thereafter, he was referred to as The Mountain Man. In 1967, his employer transferred him to the State of Florida where he experienced the same "Mountain Talk" reference, thus he took on the title of "Mountain Man Carl."

The story of how Carl L. Trivette - Mountain Man Carl was inspired, in 1952, to write the song "I Wanna  Stroll Over Heaven with You."
